“Shrine Grove of the Sea” Fund (Umi no Chinju no Mori Kikin)

The “Shrine Grove of the Sea” fund was established to commemorate the 37th National Convention for the Development of Abundant Seas. Funded by donations, it supports the Munakata Global Environmental Symposium, related fieldwork, and the Munakata International Education Program. The donation boxes set up during the Symposium are made of bamboo from the Munakata area, cut down to prevent the trees from proliferating in a disorderly manner and damaging the ecosystem. After use, the boxes will be taken apart and their wood used to make artificial fishing reefs.
